Song library

Song library

When you open GoPlayAlong, you’ll land in the library view — the place to organize, search, and share your songs.

Songs aren’t included with the app, but you can download compatible files from many free and paid sources online.

Add songs

To add new songs, select Library > New song from the system menu or press CmdO.

Alternatively, drag and drop any folder into the library window. GoPlayAlong will scan the folder for tab files and add all compatible songs.

The library search tool lets you quickly find songs by title, artist, or by musical properties like tempo, key, tuning, etc.

To start search, click on the search icon in the top right corner of the library window or press CmdF.

Song tags

In GoPlayAlong, musical properties like tempo, key, and tuning are called Song Tags. You can use the search tool to filter songs by these tags, making it easy to find songs that match your needs.

Tags are automatically extracted from the tab file and appear under Song details when you select a song.

Some tags—such as Grade or Genre—can be edited by clicking on the Edit… button under Tags in the Song details section.

Songbooks

Songbook are the equivalent of playlists, set lists or any collection of tabs, just like a real songbook.

Create a songbook

Select Library > New songbook from the system menu or press CmdB.

Add songs to a songbook

You can add songs to a songbook in multiple ways:

  • Open a songbook, then select Add songs under Songbook details.
  • Select any song(s) in the library, then right-click and select Add to songbook.
  • Open a songbook, then drag and drop compatible tab files from your file manager into the songbook.

Playlists

Songbooks are similar to playlists in music apps. After loading a song from your songbook, you will see a playlist icon in the top-left corner of the player. You can play the next song in your set list by clicking on the playlist icon.

Chapters

Chapters can help you better organize your songbook. Chapters are like folders: they can contain songs and other chapters.

To create a chapter, open a songbook, then select New chapter under Songbook details.,

A song can only appear once in a songbook. If you want to include a song in multiple set lists, consider creating separate songbooks.

For organizing content across multiple bands or musical projects, the Groups feature can help you manage your songs and songbooks more efficiently.

Re-arrange a songbook

If you want to change song order in a songbook, select any song(s), then drag them to the desired position. To move songs between chapters or songbooks, select any song(s), and select Move under Songbook details.

Groups

If you work on multiple musical projects, use the Groups feature to manage and share set lists more efficiently. Groups can hold songs and entire songbooks too.

Create a group

Select Library > New group from the system menu or press CmdG.

Add group members

By default, groups are private to you and are not uploaded to the cloud. To share group content with other GoPlayAlong users, you need to add them as members.

Open a group, then select Members under Group details. Enter the email address or username of the person(s) you want to invite, then click Add.

Add content to a group

You can add content to a group in multiple ways:

  • Open a group, then select Add songs or Add songbooks under Group details.
  • Select any song(s) or songbook(s) in the library, then right-click and select Add to group.

Once a group is shared with others, newly added songs and songbooks will be automatically uploaded to the cloud and shared with all group members.
